We are currently in the process of preparing for the 2023 Bible Bowl and this year’s assigned text, the book of Matthew. The annual Bible Bowl provides a great opportunity for our youth to learn more about God’s word and His plan for them.

The Woodland Park Leadership encourages all qualified youth to participate, knowing that a truly successful experience requires the concerted and focused efforts of our Coordinator, Coaches, Scholars, and Parents/Guardians.
Three years of research by researcher George Barna regarding “ministry” to children has revealed many surprising outcomes, including:
- A person’s moral foundations are generally in place by the time they reach age nine
- A majority of Americans make a lasting determination about the personal significance of Christ’s death and resurrection by age twelve
- In most cases people’s spiritual beliefs are “irrevocably” formed when they are preteens and they believe they know what they need to know spiritually by age thirteen
Another implication is that the individuals who will become the church’s leaders two decades from now are probably active in church programs today. And Bible Bowl is one of those vital programs. That reminds us of the relevance of Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
It is obvious that our children are the key to the church’s growth; and Bible Bowl is a key growth vehicle for our youth. George Barna’s research further underscored the importance of “families, not churches,” taking the lead in the spiritual development of children.
At Woodland Park we have been very successful with our children’s participation in the annual Sycamore Bible Bowl competition, and we thank you all for those efforts. And we know we will be even more successful with your continued support this year. We thank you in advance for your commitment for 2023 and pray that all eligible youth will be actively involved in this year’s Bible Bowl.
