The Widowed Persons Ministry provides ongoing support to widowed individuals through Bible study, fellowship and outreach and is also known as Christians Rendering Ongoing Support to Spouses (CROSS). To encourage and uplift its members, the Ministry holds monthly meetings that include prayer, meditation and the discussion of relevant topics. In addition, the Ministry sponsors field trips and/or social events from time to time. For example, discussion themes have included "The Gift of Life", "God's Providential Intervention", "Freedom in Christ" and "Leaves of Gold". The Ministry has also sponsored activities such as potluck/game days and holiday socials. Since 2011 the highlight of the Widowed Persons Ministry has been its annual grief seminar for members of the Woodland Park congregation, as well as members of sister congregations and the general community who have suffered any kind of loss and who are provided with resources in grief counseling by a professional speaker.
On Saturday, June 13, 2015, the Widowed Persons Ministry of the Woodland Park Church of Christ hosted its Fifth Annual Grief/Bereavement Seminar at the church facility from 2 - 4 p.m. The purpose of the event was to console grieving families in our own congregation, sister congregations, and members of the community at large. Noted guest speaker and grief counselor, Dr. Doris Vaughans, PhD, presented the excellent PowerPoint presentation “Confident Hope for Your Journey,” which focused on parents who are grieving the death of children, and children who are suffering from the loss of parents and/or other close relatives. This year’s theme was taken from the following Scriptures: “It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the Lord” (Lamentations 3:26). “Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep praying” (Romans 12:12). More than 40 persons attended the seminar.
